Lightsaber Colours In Star Wars

Hey there, fellow Star Wars fan! Did you know that lightsabers aren’t just blue, red, and green anymore? In the newest addition to the franchise, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, we get to see some awesome new lightsaber colours! And each colour has its own special meaning in the Star Wars universe, just like the many other cool gadgets and gizmos from George Lucas’ amazing galaxy. Get ready to enter a whole new world of lightsaber excitement and discover the hidden meanings behind each color!

There have been more instances of lightsabers appearing in media, and not all lightsaber colours are exclusive to the Jedi or the Sith. Even though the Mandalorians aren’t Jedi, the black lightsaber, known as the Darksaber, holds a special place in their culture. While the Darksaber’s appearance sets it apart from other lightsabers, its plasma blade is actually powered by a Kyber crystal.

Each hue of a lightsaber is a result of a unique combination of Kyber crystals. These crystals are extremely rare and can be found all over the galaxy, each one tuned to the force. Whether Kyber crystals are found a neutral colour and only acquire their hue when discovered by a Jedi or whether Jedi are guided to crystals of preexisting hues is a topic of debate.

Iconic Blue Lightsaber

So blue lightsabers are probably the most iconic lightsabers. I mean, ever since A New Hope, everyone knows that the blue lightsaber is the symbol of the Jedi Order and Luke Skywalker’s legit destiny. So many Jedi in the prequel trilogy had blue lightsabers; it was like a trend or something.

And get this: because of their association with the Jedi, blue lightsabers are all about righteousness, bravery, and a strong spiritual alignment with the crystal and the force. Jedi legends like Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Luke Skywalker, and even Count Dooku wielded this hue (before he went to the Dark Side, of course). And did you know, Star Wars fans, that this color symbolizes a Jedi Guardian in Star Wars Legends? Cool, right?

The Green Lightsaber

Hi, fellow Star Wars fans! Did you know that green lightsabers are the second-most popular color used by Jedi? It’s true! This color is all about peace, cooperation, and spirituality, which makes sense since Jedi are all about those things. And guess who else loves green lightsabers? Legends like Yoda, Qui-Gon Jinn, and pre-Sequel Luke Skywalker, they know what’s up!

Jedi Consulars, who place a greater emphasis on understanding the Force than on engaging in combat, are primarily responsible for using green lightsabers in the expanded universe. Disney hasn’t said much about it, but we know it’s true. So, next time you see a green lightsaber in the Star Wars universe, know that it’s a sign of good vibes and a Jedi who’s ready to spread some positivity!

Lightsaber colours Rey with her yellow lightsaber

Yellow Lightsabers

Oh, dear Padawan, you have stumbled upon one of the greatest mysteries of the Jedi Temple! The Jedi Temple guards are a peculiar bunch, using only yellow lightsaber pikes with two blades. Who knows where this particular hue comes from? Maybe the force itself selects the guards by turning their crystals yellow! But wait, there’s more! Even characters like Asajj Ventress and Ahsoka have used this color. And guess what? Our girl, Rey Skywalker, rocked a yellow lightsaber after defeating Emperor Palpatine. Pretty cool, huh? The force truly works in mysterious ways!

Lightsaber colours Mace Windu with his purple lightsaber

Purple Lightsabers

Get ready to have your mind blown! So, you know Jedi Master Mace Windu, right? Well, it turns out the only thing cooler than his kick-butt skills is his radical purple lightsaber. Can you guess who was behind it? None other than Mr. Samuel L. Jackson himself! But hey, can you blame him? I guess he just wanted to stand out in a sea of plain-old Jews, and boy did he ever.

And get this: in the Star Wars Legends universe, purple actually means something special. It’s like a mixtape of good and bad, all rolled into one! So if you’re wielding one of these babies, you know it’s got major mad skills when it comes to balancing out the light and dark sides of things. Whoa, mind blown!

Orange Lightsabers

Have you checked out a new addition to the Star Wars canon? It’s the orange lightsaber! And guess what? You can use it in Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor! Even the mysterious villains, Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati, couldn’t resist the charm of having an orange lightsaber. The significance of this new color is still unknown, but in Star Wars Legends, the bad guys seem to love brandishing orange blades from time to time. Maybe Skoll and Hati aren’t fully committed to the dark side, and that’s why they chose the orange sabers. What do you think? Aren’t these sabers just the coolest addition to the Star Wars universe?

Red Lightsabers

Well, well, well… looks like the Sith and the dark side have a thing for red lightsabers. But did you know that they can’t just bond with their crystals like Jedi do? Nope! They have to steal or find other ways to get their hands on the materials needed for their lightsabers. And get this, when they release all their negative emotions into the crystal, it turns red! Talk about a bad mood swing. But hey, the Sith have found a solution to this problem by creating their own synthetic Kyber crystals. So, if you see Darth Vader, Count Dooku, Darth Sidious, Kylo Ren, or Darth Maul and their red lightsabers… now you know why!

White Lightsabers

Oh, do we have some Jedi fashion gossip for you! Ahsoka Tano’s lightsabers are seriously unique. Why? They’re white! *gasp* Apparently, she got these rare Kyber crystals after kicking some Inquisitor butt and cleansing them with the Force. The crystals had previously been red, but Ahsoka did her thing and turned them into pure white. And let’s be real, the white lightsaber perfectly represents her independence since she said goodbye to the Jedi Order and was not tempted by the dark side. Not one white saber, but two! And one was even shorter. We’re loving this Jedi style evolution from Ahsoka.

Black Lightsabers

Have you heard of the darksaber? It’s no ordinary lightsaber—it’s got a short blade and a medieval vibe that takes you back in time! And the best part is, it’s got a black blade that screams super cool! Imagine that a Mandalorian Jedi named Tarre Vizsla created it! I mean, that’s just pure legend status right there! But here’s the kicker: It got stolen from the Jedi Temple by Mandalorians of House Vizsla. Sneaky, sneaky! But hey, this lightsaber is like a mystery box; whenever someone sees it, they can’t help but get curious. Who wouldn’t!

Conclusion

Let’s talk about lightsabers! So, traditionally, the Jedi Order had colours like blue, green, yellow, purple, and red. But hold on to your helmets, because in recent years, we’ve seen more colors pop up! White is Ahsoka Tano’s signature colour, and black is what the Mandalorian leader uses with their darksaber.

It’s pretty crazy how much depth there is to the meanings behind each colour. I mean, they can totally represent a character’s values and beliefs. It’s like their lightsaber is an extension of their personality! And let’s not forget about how the Sith use red, which represents evil and the dark side of the Force. All in all, lightsaber colours play a pretty important role in the Star Wars universe, adding to the richness and overall awesomeness of the story.
